The Department of Art at the University at Buffalo is dedicated to developing creative and academic skills in studio art, post-studio art, graphic design, aesthetics, critical theory, and art history. Practicing artists and designers are expected to cultivate research, theory, and history in their work, while art historians, theorists, and curators are encouraged to engage with multiple visual platforms and environments beyond the traditional discourse of art. Ub’s studio was only moderately successful and folded in 1936. A decade after leaving, Ub would return to The Walt Disney Studios, but by that point he had already missed the period of its greatest growth in animation—innovating in color and personality animation, and making the ill-advised, but extraordinarily profitable jump from short cartoons to features with Snow White and the Seven The Ub Iwerks Award for Technical Achievement, as part of the Annie Awards, is named in his honour. A rare self-portrait of Iwerks was found in the garbage bin at an animation studio in Burbank.
